Using the quote Cost targeting table, you can track the difference between the project’s estimated costs and actual costs, as well as margins. The cost types you can track are hours, expenses, travel expenses, and bills. To track the figures:
- Target costs to sales quote setting must be enabled under Settings > Feature settings > Projects.
- Enter the estimated purchase prices and the correct cost types on the quote rows.
- When actual costs start to accrue for the project, i.e., hours or invoices, they must be targeted to the corresponding quote rows.
The figures can also be tracked in the project statistics.

Hours
You can estimate the internal cost generated by hours on the quote rows. In user profiles, you can also define each of your employees’ internal hourly cost (e.g., a role-based average internal cost, do not fill in sensitive data). When a user records hours and allocates them to the quote, the person’s internal hourly cost forms the actual costs in the Cost targeting table.
Adding an estimated cost for hours
- On the project card: Sales > selected quote > Edit.
- Add a row where you enter the amount of hours x h, the unit cost, i.e., the estimated internal cost, the selling price, i.e., the sales price, VAT, and select Hours as the type from the drop-down menu. Finally, save.
Allocating hours to the quote
Hours can be allocated to the correct quote row when recording hours or in the Actual costs view, when the hour has not yet been invoiced.
Expenses and travel expenses
You can estimate the cost generated by expenses and travel expenses on the quote rows. When expense and travel expense claims are later created, allocated to the project’s quote, and approved, you can compare estimated and actual costs.
Adding an estimated cost for expenses and travel expenses
- On the project card: Sales > selected quote > Edit.
- Add one or more rows where you enter the amount of the costs, the unit cost, i.e., the estimated internal cost, the selling price, i.e., the sales price, VAT, and select Expenses as the type from the drop-down menu. Finally, save.
Allocating expense and travel expense claims to the quote
Expense and travel expense claims can be targeted to the correct quote row when adding/editing an expense claim or a travel expense claim, or in the Actual costs view, when the cost has not yet been invoiced.
Bills
You can estimate the cost generated by the project’s subcontracting, i.e., bills, on the quote rows. When bills are later allocated to the project’s quote and approved, you can compare estimated and actual costs.
Adding an estimated cost for bills
- On the project card: Sales > selected quote > Edit.
- Add one or more rows where you enter the amount of purchases, the unit cost, i.e., the estimated cost, the selling price, i.e., the sales price, VAT, and select Sub-contracting as the type from the drop-down menu. Finally, save.
Allocating bills to the quote
Bills can be allocated to the correct quote row when adding/editing a bill or in the Actual costs view, when the cost has not yet been invoiced.
